I hope everyone is enjoying their Summer so far!

We've been very busy lately and i am SO thankful for all of my wonderful clients. Currently we are completely booked till mid-August. If you have already contacted me regarding a session prior to June 30th and you have not received your final booking date, please email me ASAP.

We are doing our best to keep up with the Summer bookings while also taking time for a much anticipated Summer break. It will be the first time in 5 years so it's been a long time coming! We will do our best to return emails and calls during the break when possible but the turnaround may not be as quick as usual.

In the meanwhile, I just want to post a few sessions before it ends up being Fall!!!

Hello Friends! I am not really sure where the time goes but i can't believe how long it's been since i blogged! I am finding it more challenging as time goes on to keep up with the website, (which really needs and update!) the Facebook Fan Page and this little ole' blog. It is possible in the near future that i might finally employ some help specifically for this purpose. Maybe that is the solution!

Spring Break and Happy Easter!

I would like to take this time to thank everyone who has made this first part of 2010 so special...both for my studio, 'Lisa Julia Photography'...and for me personally.
I also wanted to alert everyone that the studio will be on Spring Break (thanks to my lovely 7 year old daughter!) starting April 9th. The studio will open again on April 19th.
I can be reached by phone and email (my preference!) between now and then, but no orders will be processed, no calls can be returned and no sessions can be booked while we are closed....so if you would like to schedule an upcoming session, please email the studio via the contact form on the website as soon as possible. May is nearly full so those wishing to take advantage of Spring Portraits should keep this in mind. In general, we book several weeks in advance, while repeat clients will book even further in advance. We do our best to fit everyone in on the date and time they wish.
All that said, I leave you with a couple portraits of my own little lady a.ka. 'Kissalicious' =)

Life's Miracles (this is going to be long!)

Wow. It's been quite awhile since i have made time to blog. So much has happened...both in the world and in my life...personally and professionally. I have been 'cheating' a little by sending the sneak previews via email to my clients vs updating the blog. I have been finding it difficult to make time to write my comments about my wonderful subjects and then the time slips by!
Maybe it's the post holiday rush combined with all the snow we got here in the metro DC area. Maybe it has to do with the recent passing of my mother.
Either way, i was reminded by a wonderful young mother that i haven't posted any updates so today is the day!
As i look through some recent sessions, i thought it appropriate to share one featuring a little girl named Sophia. First of all i have to back up to about 2 years ago. I was contacted to photograph a newborn...however i was informed it would not be my 'typical' newborn session as this one would be taking place in the NICU of a local hospital. Little Sophia was experiencing potentially life threatening complications and i needed to get there as soon as possible.
Sophia's parents are two of the strongest people i have ever met, with an unshakable faith in the healing power of God. They believed that no matter what the doctors were telling them that their tiny baby girl was going to be healed....against all odds.
I completed the session and the family was kind enough to send me updates from time to time. But a long period of time had passed when i heard nothing at all. I continued to pray for them but didn't want to pry.....so imagine my joy when i recently received and email from Sophia's doting father requesting me to photograph Sophia who turned TWO YEARS OLD!!
I about did a flip i was so happy. Sophia has indeed beaten the odds and continues with therapy and care AT HER HOME!! She is truly an example of the power of unconditional love and unshakable faith and i am a better person because of her.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!
This year i resolve to try to be better about posting on my blog! I had all these grand ideas about an end of 2009 'favorites' post and realize we are already into the first week of 2010!
I still plan to do that post and hopefully make it into an easy to view slideshow, but it's been challenging to select my favorites while also having my first grader home for Winter Break for the last 2 weeks ;-)

In the meanwhile i wanted to let you all know about the Winter Boutique Petites! They have been a big hit when i have been able to set aside time to do them so i wanted to do a block of them in 2010 as well! Boutique Petites are mini sessions and are best suited for one or two subjects and are scheduled for 20 minutes...perfect for those who are new to the custom portraiture experience! They are normally done in the studio this time of year unless someone wants to brave the chilly air and shoot around Occoquan! I am up for anything and recently photographed a *very* daring family in the rain! (You know who you are)
So, for sessions that take place from January 5th- February 26th, you may be given the option of a Full Session or a Boutique Petite if you meet the requirements. This will be the only time i foresee this year that i will be giving that option. Please use the contact form on my website and i will fill you in on all the details! These are being booked on a first come first serve basis.

Now for a sneak preview of that 'rainy day' session i mentioned above. Historic Occoquan is an awesome setting no matter what the weather =) Thanks Debbi and family for making my work enjoyable!!!

Well hello there!!
I am wicked behind again in blog posts but thankfully *almost* done with the Christmas rush!
I had the pleasure of photographing these beautiful little sisters plus their mom and dad at the tail end of the Fall foliage. I figure they already sent out their Christmas cards so it's safe to share a few here =)

Hi there!
I keep forgetting that when i post a sneak preview on Facebook that it doesn't show up on the blog! So sorry about that! One of these days i will get it all straight!
So...let me just post a few from some recent sessions while i come up for some air. I know Christmas is still more than a month away, but i am in the depths of the 'Holiday Rush' so the time tends to escape me especially when it comes to blogging and all that other online 'stuff' =).
And while i have your attention November is completely booked as well as December. However there is a waiting list. All you have to do is contact the studio for details. If you already contacted me about a session prior to today, you are all set.
To expectant moms, if you are due between now and January, please contact the studio to check for availability. While i have booked up all the regular time slots i always try to leave room for newborns when possible.

Little Yadon (aka 'Ya') is one of my favorite young subjects! I have been photographing him since he was taking up residence in his mother's womb ;-)
He is just over a year old now and he's grown into a magnificent little cherub complete with twinkling eyes and deep dimples. I only have one to share for now as my work schedule has been put slightly on hold due to my daughter getting sick. Tis the season i suppose but it makes it much harder to work when you are worried about your little one. The good news is she's on the mend and we hope to have a full recovery in the next few days.

I hope nobody will mind if i post something 'personal', but exactly 7 years ago today at 9:26pm EST i gave birth to my beautiful baby girl. My husband and i were totally over the moon. She's everything we prayed for and more.
She is my Joy.
She is my Inspiration.
She is the Song in my heart and the most loving Heavenly Gift i could have ever received.
I have more love for this Sweet Little Girl than my heart could ever contain.
Today she turned seven and i will never be able to thank God enough for my Kissalicious Girl.

First some studio news.

Well hello there!
I am still behind...um...way behind in blogging and now that school is out, i am trying to juggle being a mommy with being a custom photographer. Luckily things are getting done even though i haven't quite figured out how to be in two places at the same time yet ;-)

Awhile back I shared a 'fairytale fusion' from this session but realized i forgot to come back and share a few more. It is a very special session for me because i was able to capture this beautiful family before they were transferred out of state. I will miss you all! Hello!! Before i forget, i'd like to thank everyone who came out to the Occoquan Craft Show this past weekend! The weather was great and it was a lot of fun! During the Show, i held a drawing for 3 complimentary "Boutique Petite" mini photo sessions. Yesterday my 6 year old daughter drew the names. I'd like to congratulate the 3 winners, who have all been notified. If for any reason they will not be able to participate, we will draw additional names.

Now on to one of my recent sessions!
This is Cody....an adorable little boy who stole my heart. When he flashed that smile and those big baby blues i was putty in his hands LOL! Cody is one of the models for the 2010 calendar that will benefit the Down Syndrome Association of Northern Virginia. In the coming months i will keep you posted on how you can help a wonderful cause by purchasing the calendar. I am very honored and proud to help with this wonderful project.

Occoquan Craft Show THIS WEEKEND!!

Just a head's up that I will be in the studio all this weekend from 12-6 for the Occoquan Craft Show.
If you are able to stop by, you can put your name in the drawing for a complimentary mini photo session valued at 175.00.

I will not be at the Fall Show so this will be the *only* opportunity this year to win.

Oh gosh...the time has escaped me again and alas i am wicked behind in blogging! Not to mention i have been trying to add another gallery to my website and i realized i am running out of server space..ACK!...on top of that i did something really stupid! I picked up a skillet i took out of the oven and burned my hand pretty badly. Though i am 'lefty' i still use my right hand a lot...in fact way more than i realized and editing and shooting has been a lot slower and more difficult.
The good news is my hand is much better and i have a couple moments to post a few from a maternity session with the lovely Malissa.
Joining us is aspiring artist Olivia who has been featured on the blog at least a few times that i can remember lol!
I also want to congratulate Malissa and the rest of the family on the recent birth of their new baby girl!!!

Before the recent days and days of rain, we actually had some nice weather. While it would have been nice if it were a little warmer, it was still pleasant enough to go to the 'beach'.
I really enjoyed spending time with this lovely and very relaxed family.

Do you remember these cutie pies??? "Chi" and "Ya" are a big part of why i love what i do. This last session i had with them, Chi was a big help in getting some really cute giggles out of her adorable baby brother...and then we got some great and fun expressions from her too!

Helloooooo!
Well i am back to work and haven't had much time to post since getting back home last Friday night...but i wanted to pop on and thank everyone who came out to the Kid's Expo on Saturday!
It was great meeting you all and hopefully i didn't seem too jet lagged =)
I also wanted to let everyone know that the raffle winner was chosen.
Huge congratulations to Lynn L of Manassas on winning a 'Boutique Petite' session which will take place just after her twins are born...so wishes for a joyous and easy delivery heading your way.

Newborn Photographer in Northern VA

Me again!!! I have a few things to mention before i get to the pictures...hope you don't mind...
First, the studio will be closed for Spring Break, and will re-open on Monday April 20th.
I am not sure how dependable my internet connection will be so please forgive me if i am unable to return emails till i return...i promise that when i get back, everyone will will hear from me one way or another lol!
Secondly...i will be participating in the Kid's Expo on Saturday April 18th at the Prince William County Fairgrounds. The Expo runs from 10-5 and the admission is free! Kelly of Kelly's Artbox will be keeping me company and we both look forward to seeing you. In appreciation for all the continued support of my 'loyal following' i am holding a drawing for a complimentary "Boutique Petite" mini collection. You don't have to be there for the drawing but you do have to be there to put your name in the jar!
I am also going to allow everyone who comes and books and PAYS for a session to use that session fee toward the purchase of prints.
This is a GREAT opportunity to reserve your session over the Summer or Fall.
Lastly, remember the lovely Desi and her family a couple posts down? Well i am pleased to announce that Desi had her beautiful baby girl and i had the privelege of photographing her when she was just a week old!

I was very excited when this proud Papa first contacted me to come photograph his adorable baby girl. I love this age! She was all smiles and sweetness even though she had just finished getting over a little cold.
We decided to do the session in their beautiful home so we could incorporate their personal surroundings in their portraits.
I know these will look a little different than the sneak previews i usually post because these are just a few of the 'pages' from the session album i created for them.
Session albums are a new offering for 2009 and no two are designed the same!...well except if you order two of the same one lol!!
The album is 8x8 with 20 portraits. It features a lush purple brocade cloth cover to coordinate with their decor...so yummy!

I have the pleasure of photographing some of the most beautiful maternity clients. The cool thing is they are just as lovely on the inside which makes my job that much more fun!

Meet Desi and her family...and some peacock feathers. I won't go into great detail, but when i was contemplating what i wanted to create during our session, peacock feathers popped into my head out of nowhere...it was crazy as they aren't a typical 'prop'. Come to find out that peacocks hold a special meaning for Desi, and i am so glad we were able to incorporate my vision with hers.

Desi is due any day now and my love and prayers go out to her for an easy, speedy labor and delivery xoxo

Don't be mad at me! I know i have been a BBBBBAAAAAD blogger but i am swamped!! So along with a few sneak previews, i wanted to give a head's up that i am BOOKED SOLID for March and i have limited availabilty for April..and yes...i am already starting to book for May....so while that means there might be a waiting list for the date you want, it also means that i must thank you all for keeping me so busy!!! I truly love what i do, and feel very humbled and blessed. It is a tremendous joy to be able to make others happy with my work and i really appreciate all of you!
In the coming days, when i hopefully, finally start to catch up, i will start sharing sneak previews more often...until i get behind again LOL!

I was first contacted by his Mommy to do maternity portraits but at the time she was already 38 weeks along....we tried our best, but on the day of the session she went to have her baby son!....so while i don't have maternity portraits featuring a pre-born Zachary, i *do* have Zachary in all his adorable sweetness at just six days young...just one for now till i start to catch up!

Fairytale Portraits in Northern VA

Okay..so it's cold and dreary outside...but hopefully this will bring you a warm smile!

I have posted info about my 'Fairytale Fusions' in prior entries where i take portraits i have made and blend them with a bit of whimsy. Previously my Fairytale Fusions were only available to my clients and only on portraits i photographed.
New for 2009, i am now accepting commissions from the 'general public' as well as other photographers. Now YOUR photographs can be transformed!
As you can imagine, Fairytale Fusions are quite labor intensive and close attention is paid to every teeny tiny detail. No two are ever exactly the same.
In order for a Fairytale Fusion to 'work' there are some requirements that need to be met with the photographs i use. The higher the quality of the photographs, the better the results. Not all photographs are appropriate candidates. I review each photo submitted and return a proposal which includes what my vision might be for your photograph.
Each Fairytale Fusion is priced on a case-by-case basis and an estimate will be included with your proposal.
I am only able to take a limited amount of Fairytale Fusions from 'non' clients at this time so you are encouraged to get in touch as quickly as possible for more details.
Current and previous clients have first priority...and YES, we can select a 'candidate' for a Fairytale Fusion from the portraits captured in the Boutique Petite mini sessions =)

Here is a sweet newborn baby girl named Isabella. For a newborn, Miss Isabella was really strong...one of the strongest i have met especially those little legs..i predict she will be standing way sooner than most!

Mom requested the 'baby in the fluff' which has become sort of my signature pose for newborn girls =) They seem to really like all the soft ruffles because they always smile.

They came with some super cute blankets and an adorable hat too!

We also wanted to capture a pose that would make a cute 'Fairytale Fusion'...this was fun!

Road Trip!

I had the privilege of photographing two expectant Moms recently...they were both GLOWING and absolutely stunning.
The first Mama was photographed during a 'blessingway' which is similar to a baby shower but it's ALL about the Mom where some heavy pampering takes place. WOOHOO!
The design on Mama's belly was painted with henna by her friends, which made for an extra neato 'belly shot'!

I Miss Her Already....Stephanie, Age 2 1/ 2

It's taken me a few days to be able to compose this post, mainly because i get a little 'drippy' every time i try to sit and type. Steph's Daddy has been transferred out to Colorado, so Thursday we set up a 'final session' before they head out.
I first photographed Stephanie just after she started sitting up on her own. She was such a beautiful baby, and even back then her personality was infectious. She's lovely, charming, personable and of course extremely photogenic ;-). I can't even believe how much she's changed and grown with each session. The uber chubby feet and thighs have made way for a tall, demure little girl who stands proud and smiles sweetly at me. She's full of giggles and raspberries and i am going to miss her terribly.

Hi!

I thought i would jump on real quick and update you on one of THE cutest baby boys. I first photographed Jonah when he was all of 3 days old! Technically i photographed him before that when mom was still carrying him ;-)
His big sister Sarah is also a fave subject of mine too!

On June 5th, Jonah turned one. I can't believe how big he is and how fast he is on his feet!

Technical difficulties with my website...UGH!

So it's after 3am and i am trying to get caught up on editing...i have several beloved clients i recently photographed who are all moving out of state...which means i am burning the midnight oil (and beyond!) to get the galleries and slideshows done...so....while my fingers are moving frantically in the wee hours of the morning....i just found out that only *I* can see the flash/high speed version of my website, and thanks to another local photog friend who is also burning the midnight oil, i now know my site is down...OH JOY! Seems the recent update i tried to do tonight messed things up and now i can't get it back to it's previous state...That'll teach me!

Thankfully my ancient but reliable 'dial up' site is still working, though my flash site, as well as the blog you are reading has my more recent work.

Hopefully the wonderful techie web folks i contacted a few minutes ago while in a state of panic will be able to help me fix this soon...but i trust they are in bed at the moment as i should be!

Maybe i am dreaming this and it's really working...i will keep you posted! Or better yet, if you can see the high speed version of my site, let me know so i can sleep easier LOL!

Father's Day sessions are finished...those who need their portraits in hand for Father's Day are all set, but if you haven't already booked a session and need portraits in hand for Father's Day, i am sold out! If you don't need prints in time for Father's Day and still want to schedule a session, let me know as i still have some openings in June, but i am currently booking sessions for July and further. I am normally booked well in advance and the Fall fills up very fast, usually with repeat clients who know how crazy my schedule can get lol! I want to thank you all for your kindness and support. It means the world =)

This is Kelly...if you look over on the right hand side of my blog, you will find a link to her Etsy store, "Of Nature Jewelry". Not only is Kelly an amazing jewelry designer, she is also a phenomenal painter. Her talents include murals, custom breyer horses and portraits.

I can't believe Miss Lily will be 3 years old in July. I have been photographing her since she was just a little babe. Lily and her family will be moving out of the area later this month, so this was our last photo shoot *sniff*....this is from this afternoon. You are going to fall head over heels for her...i promise! Ellie is the last model i have had the honor to photograph for the Down Syndrome Association of Northern VA's 2009 calendar.
This was taken yesterday in the studio as we weren't really sure if the raindrops would hold off.
It's hard to put into words how much emotion filled my heart during this session. To see the love and the connection between Ellie and her mom was a work of art in itself. I will try and post a couple more before the weekend. It's been crazy busy around here lately =)

Okay i know i am behind in posting sneak peeks and i am going a little out of order tonight..or should i say today since it's after midnight lol! But i just had to put a few up before calling it a night.

This weekend was just glorious...the weather...the clients..everything was really wonderful.

Late this afternoon i had the privilege of photographing a truly amazing family...very fun...very active (think soccer!) and they were also very patient. My fave shooting spot was PACKED to the gills so it took awhile before we were finally able to get to the sand. In the meanwhile we found some other neat spots, and i really had fun when it was all said and done.

What a contrast from yesterday's weather. In addition to the rain, it was CHILLY!
I managed to get a few photos despite having to head for cover a few times, but ultimately Hannah's session was cut short and we'll need to finish up at a later date...so stay tuned!
Mom, Dad and especially Hannah were very patient and hopefully when we meet up again the weather will be more accommodating!

Caterpillar to Butterfly: Shayla Yesterday and Today

Well the sun finally came out in my neck of the woods so off we went to one of my favorite spots!

My companions were the lovely Shayla and her family. Shayla is now a graduate of the caterpillar to butterfly sessions, though i can NOT believe she's already a year old!!!
In honor of her 'graduation', I thought it would be fun to go down memory lane a bit and post a few from sessions gone by...look how much she's grown!!! Big hugs Shayla...and to big brother Perrin...i hope you are feeling better, sweetie!!! (((Perrin))))

Ashley....a total doll baby!

Oh what a day! I don't usually post personal stuff here, but today was just one of those days. Woke up to a completely flooded basement....the second time since October. Ironically the baseboards were put in on Wednesday and the new carpet was to go in tomorrow...ain't gonna happen =(
Thankfully, there was some light at the end of the gloomy, rainy tunnel in the form of little Ashley. Ashley is the 3rd model to be featured in the calendar to benefit the Down Syndrome Association of Northern Virginia. If you scroll down you can see two of the other models! I will keep you posted when the calendar will be ready for purchase. It's a wonderful cause!

Ashley is SUCH a good baby...i mean a total dream...sweetest disposition, most adorable chubby cheeks and gorgeous brown eyes that i believe can see your soul! Here mom was a real trooper and did a great job assisting with the session. I really enjoyed our time together. Thank you for coming out on such a rainy, chilly morning!

Do you remember Caitlyn the little newborn from January? She is almost 4 months old ALREADY! I have been posting most everything in color lately so here's a black and white...how about that hair...too stinkin' cute for words, no?!!

And here is the precociously lovely Kristina! She is the 2nd model i have had the privilege to photograph for the Down Syndrome Association of Northern VA's 2009 calendar. Kristina along with her Mom Tina and big brother Conner were kind enough to make the ride to the studio from Manassas today. I loved meeting you all so much!

Sometimes people come into your life, and you instantly know that you will never forget them.
Saturday i photographed a delightful young lady named Karsha, and her wonderful mother Gail. Karsha was chosen to be one of the models for the 2009 calendar to benefit the Down Syndrome Association of Northern Virginia

The foundation holds a very special place in my heart. One of my dearest friends named Michelle lost her beautiful daughter Carina Hope to complications from Down Syndrome. Carina would be 3 years and 4 months old today. She is loved and missed by all of us, though i am greatly comforted knowing there is a special angel looking after me.

Karsha is the first of the four models i will be photographing during the month of May. When the calendar becomes available, i will post the information on how you can purchase them. All proceeds benefit the DSANV. Click the link to see how else you can help!

Today was just lovely....warm...breezy...a perfect Spring day!

You may already recognize the adorable Miss Kevralyn from my galleries...the sweet little freckles and the impish grin. Well next week she will be making her First Holy Communion so Mom wanted some traditional portraits to commemorate the special day.
We did some inside the Church and a few outside where the azaleas were in bloom.
I am so happy to be part of such a wonderful milestone. She truly looks like an angel!!!

Meet Zeus!....or for those of you who remember him sporting a Santa hat from my 'eclectic' gallery, here is the handsome boy as he looks today =)

Miss Olivia, the lovely little companion of Zeus is one of my original 'baby plan' clients. It has been a pure delight to photograph her and watch her grow and change into the little lady she's become.

Today's session was prompted by some serious news given to Olivia's/Zeus' parents....Zeus has been diagnosed with Liver cancer and his prognosis is uncertain. I wanted to capture some special moments including the whole family that will hopefully remain as keepsakes for many years to come.

If you are the praying kind, please keep Zeus and his family in your heart. He really is a special boy.

This has been a long time coming...i actually set up my Etsy account over a year ago and am finally making time to list some of my 'other' art work, after many requests from those who have seen some of it.
In addition to my portrait work, i also have a strong passion for photographing the flora and fauna that surrounds me...as well as the interesting subjects i find on my travels.
i will soon be listing some lovely fine art prints of the landscapes of Hydra, Greece, the majestic Wild Horses of the Outer Banks of North Carolina as well as various florals and butterflies, exotic sea life of the Tropics and more.

As mentioned in my previous post, i won a ticket to see Pope Benedict celebrate Mass at Nationals Stadium in Washington DC yesterday.
These are just a few of the images, and were shot by me from quite a distance away.
i will remember my experience for the rest of my life.
